Elsa’s Ice Queen Cape
My girls wanted to dress up as different versions of Elsa for Halloween. My oldest wanted to be “blue cape Elsa”, the Elsa from the first Frozen movie when she becomes the Ice Queen. I followed the pattern from another cape we have that was made by a family friend. This is an easy DIY tutorial to make your little girl’s Frozen dreams come true!
WHERE TO PURCHASE ELSA’S ICE QUEEN CAPE MATERIALS:
I purchased my materials at Walmart and Joann’s. I got the light blue fabric from Walmart. I also purchased shimmery fabric from Walmart but the fabric came out of the seams pretty quickly (even with the additional zig zag stitch). I ended up having to take the cape a part. I found another shimmery, iridescent fabric from Joann’s and it hasn’t come out at all. Velcro and thread can be found at Walmart or Joann’s.
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR ELSA’S ICE QUEEN CAPE:
-1 yard light blue fabric
-½ yard shimmery fabric
-⅜ inch white velcro
-thread
HOW TO MAKE ELSA’S ICE QUEEN CAPE:
ELSA’S CAPE:
1. Cut two pieces of light blue fabric 17” x 24”.
2. Cut one piece of shimmery fabric 17” x 24”.
3. Sandwich the shimmery fabric between the light blue fabric, right sides facing together.
4. Sew a ¼ inch seam leaving a small opening at the bottom.
Optional: sew a zigzag seam between the straight stitch and edge of fabric for extra security.
5. Flip inside out and iron seams flat.
6. Sew hole closed at the bottom.
7. Fold the top of the rectangle over 2 inches and sew.
CAPE DRAWSTRING:
1. Cut light blue fabric 3.5” x 26”.
Notes: I cut two 13 inch light blue scrap pieces and stitched them together to make the length of the drawstring.
2. Fold in half and sew ¼ inch seam, leaving an opening at one end.
3. Flip inside out and sew hole closed.
4. Iron seams flat.
5. Cut 2” of ⅜ inch velcro and sew one piece at the end of one side of the drawstring.
6. Flip and sew second piece on the opposite end.
7. Feed drawstring through the opening on the cape and you’re all done!
Your cape is done! If you made one, send me a pic via email! I’d love to see it!
