DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Bags | Valentine’s Day Gifts for Kids

Last year, my daughter had a Valentine’s Day party with her science enrichment class. It was a small class of eight students so I didn’t think it would be too terrible if we made an art project out of it. Making eight Valentine’s Day gift bags with a three and a five year old may have been pushing it a little bit, but they loved it. I asked if they wanted to take breaks. I told them we could pick it up tomorrow. They said no.

The gift bags turned out super cute. I was sad to see them go but so happy to watch the other kids get excited to receive them. These Valentine’s Day gift bags would be fun to make with your own kids, for your own kids. After they make and decorate them, fill them up with little goodies for your kids to open on Valentine’s Day!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT BAGS:

-brown paper grocery bags

-sewing machine

-thread

-pink tissue paper

-red tissue paper

-scissors

-acrylic paint

-paint brushes

-markers

-crayons

-pastels

-glitter

-glue

-letter stamps

-ink pad

-washi tape

HOW TO MAKE VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT BAGS:

1. Pull apart the bottom of a brown paper grocery bag.

2. Cut the bottom off where it’s creased.

3. Cut the bag down to your desired size.

4. Use a straight stitch to sew around the bag. Make sure you leave the top opened so you can put goodies inside!

5. Draw a large heart on the front of the Valentine’s Day bag.

6. Paint the heart with bright, fun colors.

7. Cut out tissue paper hearts. Glue as many onto your bag as you want!

8. Fill the in between spaces with maker, crayon, and/or pastel lines and designs.

9. Add glitter.

Tip: Once the glitter dries, go over the top of the glitter with a thin layer of glue. I used a foam brush. It helps prevent excess glitter falling off and getting everywhere. Glitter is either your worst enemy or your bestie for life. People love it or hate it! I think it’s so fun. What about you? Comment below, glitter lover or hater?

10. Once the bag dries, use your letter stamps and ink to write ‘HAPPY VALENTINE”S DAY’ on the front. If you know who it is going to, add their name!

11. Fill your bag with all kinds of goodies!

12. Fold the top over and tape it closed with washi tape.

WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT BAG:

I got most of these items from the Walmart Valentine’s Day section. The Target dollar section is also a good place to check for small items. These are some of the surprises I added to their baggies:

-pencils

-erasers

-pencil sharpener

-mini fuzzy coloring poster

-I spy Valentine’s Day printable

-ring pop

-other candies

-stickers

-temporary tattoos

If you make your own Valentine’s Day baggies, share them in the comments below!
